UK electronics manufacturer sees 2024 as another opportunity for more ‘Made in Britain’
6 February, 2024
Contract manufacturing specialists, UK Circuits, are predicting another year of increased opportunities for fellow British-based producers of electronics.
Recent supply chain issues and rising global costs have seen a significant return of electronics manufacturing to the UK, as British and European companies seek to avoid the challenges of Asian manufacturing.
“The repatriation of electronics manufacturing to the UK has been a common theme since the pandemic, Brexit and subsequent global events. But it’s not just supply chain security that’s making businesses choose ‘Made in Britain’” says Marc Ellis, Managing Director of UK Circuits.
UK Circuits is a leading contract electronics manufacturer with a 20,000 sq ft state-of-the-art facility which employs over 60 skilled staff.
Based in Manchester, they manufacture electronic products for other brands which are used in products including pest control devices, music equipment, lighting and industrial sensors.
With over 25 years’ experience, they produce both surface-mounted (on Printed Circuit Boards or PCBs) and conventionally assembled (through-the-hole) electronics for over 100 clients.
However, it’s their focus on skills and technology which they believe is making their manufacturing capabilities appeal to an increasing number of both British and international companies.
“We believe our partners are realising they can not only get great value in the UK but great flexibility - and the knowledge and support they need to make their products even better too” adds Marc.
UK Circuits have invested widely in training and machinery which has increased their automation and capabilities, enabling them to be more efficient and competitive.
In addition, their design team help clients to develop and improve their electronics, enabling them to provide a turnkey manufacturing solution.
“The Asian electronics market is mature and here to stay. However, with short lead times and greater flexibility, it’s the added expertise and quality control which is convincing brands and consumers to choose British-made electronics” states Marc.
In 2023, the UK market for manufacturing electronic systems for other companies was estimated to be worth 2.3 billion pounds.
UK Circuits themselves have grown year-on-year, including 13% in 2023 where it focused on efficiencies.
“With the increasing importance of sustainability, long product life-spans and short supply chains, UK contract electronics manufacturing is in fine health and more competitive and effective than ever” concludes Marc.
